Could you explain me the meaning of KEEP in these expressions?

I'm Italian. I don't understand. -keep playing your pipes -urged his mount to keep up the pursuit -If I can keep you down,I stay up -Keep it ahead of the pack -keep the existing pipes -we keep our staff in a certain amount of darkness -they'll keep very little in -shall we have that one or keep us going for a bit? -people just keep buying the buggers -you keep following that cut Please????????????

Keep means continue, retain or maintain. keep playing = continue playing keep up the pursuit=continue the pursuit keep you down=maintain you in that "down" position keep ahead=maintain the position of being ahead keep the existing pipes = retain the existing pipes, don't change them keep our staff in a certain amount of darkness = maintain them in darkness Get it?
3. -keep playing your pipes -shall we have that one or keep us going for a bit? -people just keep buying the buggers -you keep following that cut All of these mean "continue", The best way I can think of to explain the others would be "contain" or "retain possession of".
